National Conference:

Approximately 29 members of HFES attended the annual national meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Students from the chapter presented at the meeting and volunteered throughout the conference. In addition, the annual Alumni dinner was held at Mulate's restaurant in New Orleans. This dinner was well attended and was a great opportunity for students and faculty to meet with alumni from the program.


Wednesday, December 8 : HFES ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY!!!

The annual holiday party is sponsored by HFES as a farewell to the semester. Students and faculty get to talk and reflect on the various events of the semester and other upcoming opportunities. It is a funfilled event with a short award ceremony for the accoomplishments of the students and faculty.

“Trusting Computers: Designing Trust into Autonomic Computing.”

Greg A. Jamieson is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. His research and teaching centers on the design of cognitive artifacts for people working in complex systems. Professor Jamieson specializes in human-automation interaction and human-machine interface design with applications in process control, database administration, and financial systems.

“Transitioning into consulting after graduation & developing an ergonomics program for a client

Kris Hager, AEP has worked for Evans, Inc. since November 2003 to provide ergonomics and business process improvement for a variety of clients including Behr Dayton Thermal Products, Ford Motor Company, and the International Monetary Fund. He received his MS and BS in ISE from Virginia Tech in 2001 and 2003 respectively.


Fall picnic:

HFES held it's annual Fall picnic at a local park on September 12, 2004. Students and faculty shared in a potluck meal, enjoyed playing games, and welcome gifts were presented to all new students. In addition, the annual auction fundraiser and the first annual "Taste of Blacksburg" raffle fundraiser took place during the picnic and helped to raise almost $500 to help pay for students attending the National Conference in New Orleans.
